Our NBC shows took their second week off, but don’t worry, they will be back next week. For now, check out J.J. Abrams new trailer for Super 8. Super 8 has a bit of an ET feel to it and the music is amazing. Just watch the trailer here and then be ready to get in line with me on June 10th. Oh, and if you still have time, check out my power rankings for this week.
1. Justified – Cottonmouth (PW: 1)
FX – Wednesday @ 10pm
“It’s what I do. It’s who I am, Ava. As hard as I’ve been trying to pretend otherwise. Everybody else seems to know that but me.” With that line, we got our answer on Boyd Crowder. He is the bad guy. Even if he doesn’t want to be. This episode was the best yet. We got another look in on the Bennett crew and how ruthless Mags really is. During another slow week, Justified can’t help but keep the top spot.
2. Archer – Movie Star (PW: 2)
FX – Thursday @ 10pm
This weeks Archer was great. Or as Rona Thorne might say, AMAAAAAZING! In this episode we were introduced to Rosa Thorne, a movie star training for her new role with ISIS. Naturally, Lana and Archer both want to train her while Cyril attempts to help Malory write a movie script. We also got to see just how crazy Cheryl really is. With Archer, you get exactly what you expect. It may never reach Arrested Development status, but it will never disappoint you. The only thing that may disappoint you is seeing what H. Jon Benjamin (voice of Archer) really looks like.
3. The Amazing Race – We Had a Lot of Evil Spirits Apparently (PW: 5)
CBS – Sunday @ 8pm
Okay, it’s pretty obvious that Mike and Mel should have never attempted this race. Mel is just too old and some of these challenges are too much. But let’s get one thing straight, Mel never quit, Mike did. Mel was working hard, despite the cold and Mike gave up. However, I won’t lie. I’m pretty bitter they blew it and allowed the cheerleaders to advance. Thankfully, my favorites Zev and Justin are leading the way and are clearly the funniest team in the race.
4. Californication – Another Perfect Day (PW: 3)
Showtime – Sunday @ 9pm
For anyone watching Californication and reading my reviews, you may have noticed that I haven’t spent much time on the Marcy and Charlie storyline. It’s because it just isn’t that interesting. It’s trying, but it’s no Hank Moody. Speaking of Hank, the family was back together at the beginning of the episode. With Hank and Karen teaching Becca to drive and looking like a family, you know something was bound to go wrong. And it did, but not to the extent I was expecting. Becca and her friend Pearl stole Hank’s car and crashed it but came away without injuries. The main reason I’m down on this episode is because it was a set up episode. It’s the equivalent to a rebuilding year in football. You’re team has a new coach, a rookie quarterback and they’re basically telling you not to expect much this year. But they promise next year will be better. Well, next week Hank goes to court and we find out his fate.
5. Jersey Shore – GTF (Gym, Tan, Find Out Who Sammi is Texting) (PW: 4)
MTV – Thursday @ 10pm
The Ron and Sam drama continues. Am I the only one that enjoys seeing them making fools out of themselves in the clubs? Apparently I am because we never see that anymore. Instead we get JWoww getting absurdly upset with Roger because he didn’t notice her when he passed her car and the Situation feeling left out and allowing JWoww’s dogs to use the house as their own personal bathroom. I’m still keeping my hopes up for the Italy season but I have a feeling that it’s like when a professional basketball players hits the end of their career and heads overseas to make one last run.
