2011 NFL Predictions: NFC East

First, I should apologize for not getting this up sooner. I promise you that I did not take the first week of football into account before writing this, as I already had it written. It will actually be pretty apparent that I wrote this prior to the first week of football. Again, if you’ve missed any of the prior posts, you can find them here: AFC WestAFC SouthAFC East, AFC NorthNFC WestNFC South, and NFC North.

Finally, we make it to the NFC East. The toughest division in football. The division that will produce this year’s Super Bowl winner. Any team but the Redskins could win it this year, but the Eagles did the most to insure that they that win it. They signed Vick long-term, brought in the top free agent in Nhamdi Asomugha, traded away an unproven quarterback in Kevin Kolb and got another talented young cornerback in Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, and they made a potentially sneaky-good signing of free agent wide receiver Steve Smith (formerly Giants, not Panthers).

Ahmad Bradshaw is going to be great.

The Eagles will win the division, but not the Super Bowl. It’s the New York Giants that are going to win the NFC and the Super Bowl. The Giants have struggled with injuries already this year, mainly to their linebackers and defensive backs. That really doesn’t worry me. The Packers won last year after losing numerous players to injuries, including key players on offense and defense. It’s all about getting hot at the right time, and the Giants can do that. Eli will keep them in the race the whole season and Ahmad Bradshaw is going to have a very big year this year.

As I said, the Eagles will win the division this year at 12-4 and the Giants will grab a wild card spot at 11-5. The Cowboys will be good this year, but not quite good enough for the playoffs at 10-6. The Redskins are going to be terrible, but that’s not a surprise. They are starting Rex Grossman. They won’t win more than two games this year and will finish at 2-14.

Now, having said all that and watching the first week of games, I’m not ready to back down from my predictions. I think the Giants will come around and I think the Redskins will still be pretty bad. But maybe not 2 wins bad. Maybe they won’t be leading the charge for Andrew Luck.
